The Next Street Over

In between two houses halfway up the hill was a dark, winding passageway lined with trees that led out to the next street over. It was so narrow and overgrown that it was hardly noticeable from De Haro St. When we came out the other end of the verdant tunnel we found ourselves in the minus world where everything rang with an eerie dissonance.

Sifting through the upended streets of San Francisco I was enchanted by the wavy reflections on the windows of the city’s old urban architecture. There appeared to be some magical ingredient in the glass which made the reflections flicker and melt as if they felt the sun's full force. To me, these molten windows were portals, urgent and beckoning.

Who waits for me beyond the glass? My shadow? Myself? Step through the shrouded surface and see what lies thither.
